AI tools for teachers in India: an honest guide by type

Most lists of AI tools for teachers are written for other countries. A plain guide to the kinds of AI tools Indian teachers can use, what each does well, and where each falls short.

AI tools for Indian teachers

"Best AI tools for teachers" lists are mostly written for classrooms in other countries. Indian schools have different needs: board syllabuses, state-board textbooks, classes taught in Hindi or Telugu, and handwritten answer sheets in large numbers. Instead of a list of names that will be out of date next term, here is an honest guide to the kinds of AI tools a teacher in India can use, what each is good for, and where each falls short.

General AI chat assistants

Good for: brainstorming, rewriting a notice, explaining a topic in simpler words, drafting an email to parents. Many are free.

Falls short: they do not know your textbook or your syllabus, and they can state wrong facts confidently. Everything needs checking before it reaches a class.

Question-bank paper generators

Good for: quickly assembling a test from a ready question bank for a board syllabus, often with the school's name on top.

Falls short: the questions come from the bank, not from your book. If your school uses a different publisher or chapter order, papers need editing.

Lesson plan and worksheet generators

Good for: a fast first draft of a plan or worksheet from a topic name.

Falls short: most start from the topic you type, not the chapter you teach, and treat "CBSE" as a dropdown option. Check the examples and the depth against your book.

Textbook-based teaching assistants

Good for: lesson plans, worksheets, question papers, slide decks and flashcards made from your own textbook chapter. This is what TeachSmartAI does: upload the chapter, pick what you need, and every piece is written from that chapter. Hindi and Telugu chapters come out in their own script.

Falls short: it is still AI, so a teacher reads each piece first, and it needs the chapter uploaded once. What it makes from one chapter.

AI answer sheet checking

Good for: the biggest time cost of the school year, marking. These tools read scanned handwritten answer sheets and mark them against the school's answer key. SkoraAI marks by concept, in English, Hindi and Telugu, gives a reason for every mark, flags what it is unsure about for a teacher, and turns the results into a report for each student.

Falls short: the results are only as good as the answer key, and teachers still check the flagged answers. How to test one on your own papers.

On-screen marking

Good for: tidy, safe marking of scanned scripts, with totals added up automatically. It is the system boards use for their exams.

Falls short: a person still reads and marks every answer, so it saves little teacher time. On-screen marking vs AI checking.

Three questions to ask of any AI tool

  1. Where does its answer come from? Your textbook and your key, or the open internet?
  2. Can a teacher check it easily? A mark with a reason, or a worksheet you can read in two minutes, can be checked. A vague "personalised path" cannot.
  3. Who has the final word? In a school, it should always be the teacher.

Try Digiclove on your paper

Send us a term-end paper. We will mark it free.

No commitment. We mark it with SkoraAI and email you the marked sheet, with the reason for every mark, the weak areas, and our price for a pilot. Your teachers check every answer SkoraAI flags and can change any mark.
